The Studies Are In!
Research has demonstrated on multiple occasions the power in utilizing the support of others to help one achieve their goals. In one study that included 704 participants, researchers at North Carolina State University found those in an online weight loss program who had accountability partners lost more weight than those who did not. In a separate study by the American Society of Training and Development, researchers found that accountability partners increased the likelihood of goal achievement up to 65%.

What is Cotivate?
There is a significant gap in the personal development and habit tracking space: while there are numerous applications and tools designed to help individuals track and maintain their personal goals, they often lack a crucial element – social interaction and community support. Many habit trackers operate on the premise of individualistic progress, overlooking the powerful impact that a socially engaged, supportive community can bring to personal growth and habit formation.
Furthermore, existing community-driven platforms (like reddit), although rich in peer interaction, lack structured approaches to personal goal setting and tracking. These platforms offer spaces for sharing and discussing goals, yet they miss out on providing a personalized, organized, and integrated system for users to systematically track and share their progress within a community.
This gap leaves users with a disjointed experience: they either use habit trackers that lack social engagement or participate in community forums without the tools for structured personal progress tracking. Cotivate addresses this precise problem – a platform that blends the structured discipline of habit tracking with the dynamic, supportive nature of a social community, offering a more cohesive and engaging approach to personal development.
How do I use Cotivate?
Once you have activated a premium account you can create your first Drip. A Drip is a general goal you might have in mind i.e. “Improve Sleeping Habits”. You will be able to name the goal, add time constraints to your goal, and add “Drops” to your goal. Drops are action item that will help you achieve your goal i.e. be in bed by “8:00p.m.”. A Drip may have just one Drop, or it may have many; that is completely up to you.
What kinds of goals should I make?
In regards to Cotivate, a Drip (or a goal) is a desired result or outcome that depends on effort(s) to bring about said result or outcome. When thinking about how to create a Drip, one can consider goals as being one of 3 categories.
The first category of goals are called Concrete Goals. These are goals whose results are quantifiable. For example, a boxer may need to cut weight to reach a specific weight before a boxing match.
The second category of goals are called Semi-Concrete Goals. These are goals whose end results are abstract in nature but can be quantified by an arbitrary chosen unit of measurement. For instance, a goal of yours might be to become a better chess player. This result is pretty subject and relative. However, there are many different chess websites on the internet who use their own different ranking systems and you might choose one of these to measure how well you can play. You might have a specific number in mind for these types of goals or you might not.
The third category of goals are called Abstract Goals. These are goals whose end result is abstract in nature and cannot be easily measured or quantified. For instance, you might want to become more conscientious. Not only is this relative and subjective but it is also difficult to accurately measure. However, you might feel as though making your bed every morning is one thing you can do to become more conscientious. You might potentially view your success as a function of how well you adhere to making your bed every morning.
No matter what category your drip belongs to, the key is coming up with drops (actionable steps) that you feel will bring you closer to achieving that drip.
What is “The Drip”?
“The Drip” is where completed Drops will be displayed. Drops on The Drip will only be visible for 24 hours.
What if I have no one to follow?
If you have no one to follow, we suggest you find a Circle to join that will have people ready to help you achieve your goals.
What are Circles?
As a member of our community you have the option to create a “Circle”. One can think of Circles as mini-communities within the broader Cotivate community. If you have created a circle you have the options to make it public or private. If the circle is private, only the creator may invite new members into that circle. If the circle is public, anyone may join that circle. The circle will display completed Drops for all goals that have been designated to belong to that circle.
What happens when a goal expires?
If the time restriction you originally placed on your Drip expires, you will no longer be able to complete Drops for this Drip and you will have to create a new Drip if you’d like to keep completing the Drops assigned to this goal. We think making Drips (Goals) time-bound is very important.
